Access to Application Package:
Application packages may be picked up from the co-op office located at 21 Cliffside Dr., Unit #10 between the hours of 8:30 a.m. – noon and 1:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. You can also request that a package be emailed to you.
Applying for Membership:
After obtaining the application package, you are to submit the application itself along with completed forms, two current consecutive pay stubs or a letter from your employer on company letterhead embossed with the address and phone number, and a cheque or money order to cover the cost of processing the application.
Application Fee:
The amount of the application fee is $15 plus a $5 one-time membership fee per person 16 years of age and over ($20).
Numbering of Applications:
Your application will be numbered only on receipt of:
COMPLETED APPLICATION, ACCOMPANIED BY COMPLETED FORMS, TWO CURRENT CONSECUTIVE PAY STUBS OR LETTER FROM EMPLOYER AND THE APPROPRIATE APPLICATION FEE. APPLICATIONS THAT ARE MAILED IN INCOMPLETE WILL BE RETURNED.
Membership Interviews:
All household members 16 years of age and over will be required to attend an interview at the same time. Pairs of committee members will interview applicants. The application then goes (with the interviewer’s recommendation) to the Board of Directors who make the final decision on approval or rejection. Only a few applicants are interviewed at a time, depending on the status of our waiting list. If we receive a large number of applications at one time and yours happens to be one of the last to come in, it could be a year or more before you are contacted to come in for an interview.
Approval of Application:
Once your application is approved, you will receive a letter from the Board of Directors indicating that your application has been approved and your name will be placed on the waiting list for a unit.
Rejection of Application:
If your application is rejected, you will receive a letter of rejection from the Board of Directors. The Board’s decision is final on a rejection and cannot be appealed. If your application is rejected, the $5 membership fee will be returned to you.
Allocation of Unit:
When a unit is available and you are next on the waiting list, you will be called to ask if you are interested in the unit that has become available. Each time you decline a unit, your name goes to the end of the waiting list. After declining a unit the second time, your application is removed from our files and you would have to repeat the whole process over again by reapplying. When offered a unit, the Membership Selection Committee must have an answer within 24 hours as to whether you accept or decline the unit. If Membership Selection has tried to call you and not been able to contact you, they will go to the next person on the list. It will not count as a decline from you. Also, if by chance a unit is available within 30 days and you cannot take it because you need 60 day’s notice, this also will not be counted as declining the unit.
Last Month’s Housing Charge:
Once you have accepted the unit, a cheque or money order dated the current date is to be submitted to the co-op within five working days of accepting the unit. The amount is to be equal to the last month’s housing charge.
First Month’s Housing Charge:
A cheque or money order for the first month’s housing charge plus $200 maintenance fee is to be paid when you sign the Occupancy Agreement just prior to moving in.
Maintenance Fee:
A maintenance fee of $200 is due as well upon signing the Occupancy Agreement. This amount is added to the first month’s housing charge. This fee (less any money owing the co-op for repairs, unpaid debts, etc.) is mailed to the member’s new address once they have vacated the unit.
Membership Fee:
A one-time membership fee of $5 per person age 16 and over (payable by cheque or money order) is due when sending in the application.
Subsidy:
At present rental assistance is only available to members of the Co-operative who have been members for more than 12 months. Once you have lived here for one year, you can apply for Rental Assistance. You will, at this time, be placed on the waiting list for Rental Assistance and will be notified when and if Rental Assistance becomes available. Our Co-op, receive Rental Assistance Funding from the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) as part of the Federal Community Housing Initiative 2 Program.
